Facial scrub: a scrub to deeply clean my skin
There is no secret to keeping your skin youthful and radiant. Even though genetics play a role in the quality of your skin, good hygiene combined with adapted beauty routines will guarantee a healthy skin. To give your skin a “kickstart”, exfoliation is a bona fide friend to your beauty routine. Why is facial scrub your ally? Here is everything you need to know to stop using scrubs arbitrarily.
Why exfoliate your facial skin?
Exfoliation eliminates dead skin cells that stay stuck on the skin's surface and dull your complexion. As a living organ, your skin is constantly regenerating: new skin cells replace the dead ones. By eliminating them through scrubs, exfoliation oxygenates the skin and facilitates the cell renewal process.
Besides, deeply exfoliating the skin helps erase imperfections and reduce wrinkles and fine lines, which is a good way to bring radiance back to your skin.
Did you know? By unclogging your pores, regular exfoliation maximizes the benefits from the active ingredients in your daily care, for better effectiveness. We recommend to do a facial scrub before applying your face mask to get the most benefits out of it.
How to choose the best scrub for your face
Exfoliation is an essential step to getting an even and smooth skin texture. Your choice of scrub will depend on your skin type, its sensitivity and, of course, the desired result. Chemical, mechanic, or enzymatic scrubbing...it's up to you!
Mechanic scrub to refine the skin texture
Most exfoliating products are mechanical scrubs. This type of scrub has grains that perform an abrasive action, and thus needs manual operation to exfoliate using circular massages on wet skin. Besides removing dead skin cells, these movements boost blood circulation. Depending on the kind of scrub you want, the grains vary in size. Note that the finer they are, the softer the exfoliation will be, which will not be aggressive to the skin. By cleaning the superficial layer of the epidermis, this kind of scrub offers immediate results.
For whom? Recommended for normal, combination, or oily skin types. Not recommended for sensitive skins.
- Our recommended product to even out the skin:
The Marine Scrub Creamy Exfoliant is a grain exfoliator. Its creamy texture gently scrubs the skin to remove impurities and dead skin cells. Your skin is instantly clearer and softer!
Chemical scrub for a deeper cleansing
The chemical scrub is an exfoliant that cleanses and smoothens the skin’s surface through a formula containing exfoliating acids. This exfoliation procedure deeply scrubs the epidermis while stimulating the skin's cell renewal. Acidic agents contained in chemical scrubs must be carefully chosen to reduce skin irritation.
For whom? Recommended for thick and non-sensitive skins.
- Our recommended product for deep exfoliation:
The Resurfacing Peel offers triple intensive exfoliation: enzymatic, mechanical (with large grains), and chemical. It scrubs, smoothens, and polishes its way to a new skin. From first use, the skin's appearance is visibly refined, with an even and luminous complexion.
The enzymatic scrub to gently eliminate impurities
Enzymatic exfoliation is a procedure that removes dead skin cells without damaging the skin, through a natural chemical process. Through a simple contact with the skin, enzymes directly attack impurities and dead skin cells. Unlike mechanical scrubs, its formula does not contain any grains (no abrasive particles), eliminating any need for rubbing. This scrub acts deeply without stripping the skin and respecting its balance.
For whom? For all skin types, even the most sensitive ones.
- Our recommended product for deep exfoliation:
Because of its soft texture, the Vegetal Exfoliant With Natural Enzymes is friendly to even the most sensitive skins. This delicate scrub is applied like a mask to eliminate impurities and refine the skin's complexion.
How to apply a facial exfoliant?
Depending on the kind of scrub you choose, make sure to apply it correctly to reap all its benefits. Be sure not to over-exfoliate!
The steps of a good scrub
Using a grain exfoliant
It is recommended to apply your exfoliating product after your shower, while your skin is still wet and free of any impurities.
- Place a small amount of the product on the palm of your hands and apply it with small circular movements (avoiding the eye contour area) on slightly damp skin.
- Avoid rubbing too quickly and energetically. This will only irritate your skin. Work outward, focusing on the face’s center line (forehead, nose, chin), without forgetting your neck and neckline.
- Finish by rinsing with cold water to tighten pores, using a washcloth or cotton pad.
Did you know? After you exfoliate, your skin is naked and defenseless. To restore your skin's protective barrier, it is recommended to apply a hydrating product.
Using a grain-free exfoliant
Exfoliating products that do not contain grains can vary in resting time depending on their composition. On a clean skin, use a spatula, brush or finger to apply a small amount of product on the whole of the face. It is not necessary to rub or massage the face. Rinse with cold water and finish by applying a hydrating cream.
How often do you need to exfoliate your face?
Be careful not to exfoliate too often -- overly frequent scrubs damage the hydrolipidic film that protects the skin. Even though people with oily skins are recommended to exfoliate twice a week, people with normal skins should exfoliate only once a week. People with dry and sensitive skins should scrub every 10 days.
